Studies of "traditional music from Huánuco" often adopt an essentialist perspective that assumes a unique and immutable sonic identity. This study challenges this view by analyzing four instrumental formats: Regional Music Ensemble, Wind and Percussion Band, Peruvian Creole Waltz Ensemble, and Latin American Music Ensemble. Drawing on local archives, interviews, and historical-organological analysis of urban hybridization processes, the findings reveal a dynamic and evolving tradition. The coexistence of Andean and European instruments, alongside diverse Latin American aesthetics, demonstrates ongoing transformations in Huánuco's musical identity. The study concludes that this identity constitutes a plural and dynamic construction that calls for a reassessment of concepts such as essence, tradition, authenticity, and regional sonic identity.
