Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the current situation of the Tuy Tuy dance and to analyze the sociocultural and musical elements that compose it in the town of San Miguel de Querosh, district of Llata, province of Huamalíes, Huánuco. A qualitative approach with ethnographic design was adopted, carrying out face-to-face fieldwork at different festive moments. Data collection included semi-structured interviews, participant observation and audiovisual recordings. The population included musicians, dancers, experts and local authorities, with a purposive sampling to obtain diverse perspectives. The main findings indicate that the Tuy Tuy dance has its symbolic origin in the Guerra del Pacífico (1879), representing local cultural resistance. The dance is celebrated mainly during national holidays (July 24-28), and retains traditional musical instruments, such as the caja and pincullo, although the choreography has evolved. The dance reflects the cultural identity and history of the inhabitants of San Miguel de Querosh. It is concluded that it is essential to preserve this tradition through educational programs that encourage youth participation. In addition, it is recommended to investigate the influence of globalization on the practice of dance and its representation in other contexts.
